Bisexual Traffic: You Have it and Probably Don't Even Know it...
by Drew of www.threepillows.com

In 1948 Alfred Kinsey published a landmark study called Sexual Behaviour in the Human Male. You might have heard of it. This was the study where he suggested that many men are not 100% homosexual or 100% heterosexual but rather somewhere in between, or as he put it, in highly technical terms, "The world is not to be divided into sheep and goats."

He went on to create what became the "Kinsey Scale" to better describe this sexual orientation continuum. The publication of the Kinsey Scale was really the birth of the modern concept of bisexuality - the attraction by men or women to both sexes.
The Kinsey Scale

0 - Exclusively heterosexual with no homosexual
1 - Predominantly heterosexual, only incidentally homosexual
2 - Predominantly heterosexual, but more than incidentally homosexual
3 - Equally heterosexual and homosexual
4 - Predominantly homosexual, but more than incidentally heterosexual
5 - Predominantly homosexual, only incidentally heterosexual
6 - Exclusively homosexual

Interesting you say but how does this concern me, the adult webmaster? Well, I have news for you... Whether you run a gay site or straight site you have bisexual surfers. We are everywhere. We are cruising gay linklists and straight linklists. We are members of gay bear sites, straight teen sites and all kinds of sites. Ever wondered why you get some gay sales from your straight sites? Tracks left by bisexual surfers.

So how can you take advantage of this niche traffic source which is spread out everywhere? (other than the obvious, which is sign up up for the partnership program at Three Pillows, my bisexual site. See the blatant plug at the end of this article)

Well the first thing you can do is recognize that you have bisexual surfers and target them. If you don't have a gay or bisexual sponsor link or two on your straight sites then you are wasting that bi traffic. And vise versa, you should have a smattering of straight or bisexual sponsor links on all your gay sites. These links do not have to be in prime spots, bisexuality is a niche, and niche surfers will find niche text links no matter how far buried down they are. Worried about offending your gay surfers with straight text links? Keep the text links small and phrased carefully (I suggest you do not say, "Real Men Get Your Pussy Here!!" on your gay site!) or use the second tip...

The second thing you can do is to take this logically one step further and literally call out to those bisexual surfers. Try changing the gay links on your straight sites to use the words "bisexual" or "bicurious" instead of "gay"; something like, "Bicurious? Click Here" This really gets the attention of bisexual surfers. Watch your hits to those gay or bisexual sites soar. Remember, any "gay" surfer on your straight site is probably not 100% gay right? Otherwise how did he find himself on your straight site?

The third thing you can do is understand that many bisexuals are in the closet - much more so than 100% gay men and women. Discretion and security is a key selling point. I have found that text links that emphasize anonimity, privacy and security increase hits and conversions to Three Pillows. I use links like "Discretely Billed as CCBill Ltd", and "Explore your bisexuality in the privacy of your own home", in combination with other text.

And above all remember, no matter what kind of sites you have you've got bisexual traffic going through there. Don't waste it!
